Last updated: 15 August 2026
Our POPIA commitment
The practice aims to process personal information lawfully, reasonably and transparently in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Information is collected for defined purposes, limited to what is reasonably needed, kept accurate where practicable and protected with appropriate safeguards.
The practice owner is responsible for overseeing privacy compliance. POPIA enquiries may be sent to info@lerouxcounsellingpractice.co.za. The detailed Privacy Policy explains the categories, purposes, sharing, security and retention of personal information.
Your personal-information rights
- Ask whether the practice holds personal information about you.
- Request access to your personal information, subject to lawful grounds for limiting or refusing access.
- Ask for inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, outdated, incomplete or unlawfully obtained information to be corrected or deleted where applicable.
- Object to processing in circumstances recognised by POPIA or withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.
- Complain to the practice or the Information Regulator if you believe information has been processed unlawfully.
How to make a request
Send a written request to info@lerouxcounsellingpractice.co.za describing the information or record concerned and the right you wish to exercise. The practice may request proof of identity, authority to act for another person and enough detail to locate the record. This protects confidential information from unauthorised disclosure.
A request will be considered under POPIA, the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA), professional confidentiality duties and any other applicable law. Access may be limited where another person's privacy, client confidentiality, privilege, safety, legal restrictions or a valid ground for refusal applies. Prescribed PAIA forms and fees may apply to a formal records request.
PAIA and complaints
The practice's PAIA information, including categories of records and the process for requesting access, is available from the practice at the contact details above. The Information Regulator's PAIA Guide and prescribed forms are available at inforegulator.org.za.
Privacy complaints should first be sent to the practice so that they can be investigated. A complaint may also be submitted to the Information Regulator at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za, telephone 010 023 5200, or through its official website.
Security compromises
If the practice has reasonable grounds to believe that personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, it will investigate, take reasonable containment steps and notify the Information Regulator and affected people as required by POPIA, unless notification is lawfully delayed.
